Anatole Sloan is a British-Chinese director based between Seoul, Hong Kong, and the UK. His work spans narrative film, immersive media, and selected commercial projects, exploring family, culture, and the moral tensions that emerge through everyday life.
Raised between Hong Kong, Japan, and the UK, Anatole approaches Hong Kong stories from both familiarity and distance. With a restrained visual style and an empathetic eye, he is drawn to naturalistic character studies that seek to understand people before judging them.
His debut fiction short, OUR CHILD (我們的孩子), premiered at the New York Asian Film Festival. Developed as the 2024 Drama Recipient of The Pitch Film Fund, the film stars Karena Lam, Patra Au, Alan Luk, and Yiyi Liu, and explores motherhood through absence against the backdrop of a contemporary Hong Kong family.
Before moving into narrative filmmaking, Anatole built his career directing documentaries and commercial films, bringing a documentary sensibility to cinematic storytelling. His work has received international recognition, including a Cannes Lions Bronze, Silver and Bronze Clio Awards, a D&AD Shortlist, and recognition from The One Show.
Alongside his filmmaking, Anatole is Co-Founder and Creative Director of REN Studios, where he develops immersive films and location-based experiences. His immersive documentary work has been selected for festivals including the Shanghai International Film Festival.
